Alibata (or Baybayin) is an ancient form of Filipino writing which originated prior to the Spanish colonization era.

Alibata consists of three vowel groups and 17 consonant groups. By default, the consonants end with the "a" sound. However, when a mark (called "kudlit") is put on top of the consonant, the ending sound is "e" or "i". When the kudlit is located on the bottom, the ending sound is "o" or "u". Also note that the "d" and "r" can be used interchangeably in Alibata, as in the Tagalog word "madunong" and "marunong" which are basically the same words for "intelligent".

This Alibata Guide can be used to learn Alibata by heart, or for reference when reading Alibata text. Just press any of the Alibata keys, and the corresponding phoneme (syllabic sound) will appear just below the main Alibata display.

NOTE: This is not a translator. It is a guide which aids in the memorization of the Alibata character symbols.
